Cruising-Superyacht-Definition-10.25.22

The superyacht handicapping rule (ORCsy), currently used at all SYRA sanctioned regattas, was created in 2015 specifically for cruising superyachts.

Appendix SY: Superyacht Racing Rules

When stated in the notice of race, races shall be sailed under The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2025-2028 as changed by this appendix. Version 5.0, August 2024.

SYRA Rules

This booklet is a useful tool when preparing to race in regattas where Appendix SY applies. It is a companion, not a replacement, for the full Racing Rules of Sailing and includes some case studies specific to Appendix SY.

 Racing Safety Manual

Onboard safety is a primary concern for superyacht racers and event organisers. Unfortunately, accidents do occur, even with some of the more experienced racing programs. SYRA recommends that this manual be read by all captains, tacticians, and crew regularly.

Man Overboard Guidelines

SYRA recommends that event organizers use these guidelines before each regatta, and captains are encouraged to remind their race crew and guests of them before each day’s racing.
